Allies

28th November, 2024

It is March 1943, and the US 116th Infantry Regiment arrive in the Devon town of Chalford, reluctantly called upon to aid Britain in her fight against the Nazis and determined to take advantage of the romantic opportunities offered.

Emily France, whose boyfriend Tom is fighting in the desert, commences a relationship with one of the GIs, Larry Schultz. When black US troops arrive the racism of their white colleagues is revealed, and the town must wrestle with its conscience in deciding whether to implement segregation of blacks and whites.

When Tom is invalided out of the army, and returns to Chalford, tragedy ensues.

Will the people of Chalford fight their personal prejudices to ensure justice prevails?

Allies is a gripping and compelling story that represents a moral inquisition of a town faced with a dilemma of personal guilt, and examines the dubious motives displayed by those engaged in the struggle against Nazism.
