When folk feared for their lives they threw off old restraints; consequences were no longer so important. And if these girls were anxious for a meal ticket to the States, they would be willing to put something on the hook, otherwise that old catfish, he wouldn't bite at all. And once the bait was taken, there would most likely be a posting elsewhere, and he need never see the girl again. And why shouldn't he take his pleasure where he could? He was gonna put his life on the line to save this goddam country; it was only fair he get some thing in return. Yeah, if he played his cards right and came through it unscathed, this war could be the best darn thing that ever happened to him.
